Live visuals
VJ Bertranol (aka Bertrand Gondouin) is influenced by the work of pioneers such as Ben F. Laposky, Larry Cuba, Oskar Fischinger, László Moholy-Nagy and Norman McLaren. He is also influenced by drawing (calligraphy, ideograms) and middle age arithmetic and algebraic art.
He has played alongside Jeff Mills, DJ Badmarsh, Bandish Projekt,Talvin singh, Subtle Turnhips... in various european venues.
Avoiding ready made software that pushes the user in only one creative direction and thus eliminating all others, he has created his own tools : Symtonic, a Flash™ video-mixer in 2001, Podesk, an online video database and video blogging software, and Scramble, a granular video synthesis software that allows an unlimited number of video layers.
VJ Bertranol is also involved into dance and scenography research (the Laeterna Machina project) and NIME (New Interface for Musical Expression), applied to video (body sensors, motion capture and artificial intelligence).
His conviction is that digital media, in order to create art that involve the community in a meaningful process, must be composed in live situation.
He refers to techno music, the video jockeying and the traditional theater stage as a context providing the liveliness ans dynamic interaction with the media elements when he is performing.
