Universalism, Exotica & Power
(Div Artister)
Music can be a tool for communication and inclusion across social structures and positions, but may also be used for exclusion and reinforcing boundaries.
During this talk, the panel (Dr Das and others performing at the Clandestino Festival) will explore conditions for belonging and recognition in various musical genres. We especially want to illuminate links between exotism, ethnification and gendering. Based on lived experiences, the panel discusses criteria and categorisations in media and music scenes as well as strategies to negotiate and exit such limitations.
The discussion is led by Anna Gavanas, social anthropologist and DJ currently running a project on DJs on electronic dance music scenes in Berlin, London and Stockholm.
