NAZARENES [SWE]
Neither for the most inveterate fans of Clandestino Festival nor for the reggae world as a whole the Nazarenes come as a surprise. Together with the Roots Harmonics and their former band they have toured around Northen Europe since the 90s and their albums are frequently played in Jamaica.
However, what few people are acquainted with is that Nazarenes have developed a new concept in nyabinghi style. This time the Addis born brothers Medhane Tewolde and Noah Tewolde take matter into their on hands. Guitarrs, drums and percussion - all at the same time as they sing with their unique voices who are dubbed live with not too many electronique effects. Sometimes they bring with them bass support but everything else is controlled by four feet, ten fingers and two awl sharp tongues who are able to produce the most beautiful song lyrics. The material is their own, partly from Orit (2001) and partly from Songs of Life (2005). But within this new concept material from a new coming album is also born. Do we dare venture to speak of a new Copernican revolution within the art of roots reggae? Sometimes listening is enough. Dj Mleccha
