Clandestibo Festival #6 2008

KALY LIVE DUB [FRA]

Those who experienced Brain Damage’s performance during the 5th Clandestino Festival should pay extra attention to this. The French dub scene is growing rapidly and it owes alot to Kaly Live Dub. It is a scene that differs from the original Jamaican dub scene (Lee ”Scratch” Perry and King Tubby) as well as the British dub (Mad Professor, Adrian Sherwood, etc). It often includes live instrumentation mixed with various studio tricks.

Kaly is both Live and Dub, who with three remarkable albums made themself a name that no inveterate dub fan can escape from: Electro Kool Aid (2000), Hydrophonic (2002) and Répercussion (2005). It is not only the bands cooperations with the cousins High Tone and Erik Truffaz that shows their maturity. They have widen the horizon of sound experimentation both rythmically and mentally due to a range of infernal machines they put in use. Their dub is a bit darker, more noisy, more urban, sometimes almost psycadelically excessiv and overwhelmingly phat.

KLD are literally mind-blowing on stage. With an absolutely new fourth album, Fragments (2008), the Lyoneses gives us an intergalactic journey wich makes all forms of intoxication completely redundant. Dj Mleccha
