When Ghislain Poirier is in town you don’t want to miss his party. Not only did the rumours about his club Bounce Le Gros spread widely outside of Montreal last year, as a dj/producer he also makes a remarkable mix with dancehall, grime and soca. Just the thought of it makes the puls run high!

In his sixth and latest album No Ground Under (2008), both Omnikrom, Face-T and Nik Myo an raps in French, Creol and Jamaican Patwa over beats that never become dull.

On the surface Ghislain Poirier is the ultimate hipster ready to take on just any metropolitan dance floor. Deep down he is a true nerd who is forced to take his ideas to the extreme. His recently acquired love for soca has driven him to introduce his hip hop/electro audience to 162 bpm. (One house-tune normally lies on 110-140 beats per minute!).

Since Ghislain Poirier always carries out his performances as live as possible his drummer has had a real challenge. When the US-tour started in the beginning of this year they stated that ”people are really ready to get hyped”.

Today he has gone from techno to the philosophy that with the bass as aim you can mix any styles. Besides his solo career Ghislain Poirier has also made remixes for artist such as Lady Sovereign, Spank Rock, Editors, Bonde Do Role and Les Georges Leningrad just to mention a few. Louise Jacobson
