EIKO [NO]
EIKO aka Joana Aderi was born in Schaffhausen (CH), grown up in Central Switzerland, including seven years of boarding school in Immensee (CH), provincial backwater, where there where not much more to do than music (and mountaineering).
During her teenage years she was playing the piano, singing in a rockband... but mainly focusing on renaissance music with both voice and violine. In the year 2000, a sudden break with old music, out of an urgent need to do the music she hears inside. Since then uncompromisingly following her own musical track It was in August 2006 she moved to Norway confronting a small but very open-minded music scene.
’eiko’ is a result of Joana Aderi’s voice combined with an intense electronic live act based on two microphones and a laptop & sometimes featuring guests such as Joy Frempong (voc), Flo Götte (e-bass) or Marianne Halmrast (bass).
The music always emerges from her inside, where flowers can be snow, bungalows pretend to be high and wildebeast are passing by. Sweet pop tunes with angry edges, pushy old school techno, fragile renaissance vocal melodies. In the end it is all eiko. Eiko, which is japanese and can be translated as "the up and down of a lifetime".
The cd "i feel pregnant today". recorded in May 2007, was released on the Swiss label Trepok.
