ABA SHANTI-I [UK]

Aba Shanti-I is not only the name of a sound system but also of the man that operates on it. Together with his brother Blood Shanti he has since the early 80s given rise to a uplifting, rythmical and almost meditative dub known in global reggae circles through albums such as The Wrath of Jah, Jah Lightening and Thunder and Jericho Walls (Falasha Recordnings).(JPEG) The sound system has grown up in the concret jungle of a London characterised by its legendary Notting Hill Carnival. Maybe this is what gives the sound such unique urban and futuristic feeling. The concept is basically a classical rastafarian mix of culture critique and spiritualism driven of a well informed and deeply penetrating roots reggae. Roots is ”a protest music that spritualise people and awaken their consciousness”. The lively and vibrating music and inspiring message of the sound system has made Aba Shanti-I subject for several documentaries in UK, France and Germany. This year it is the first time his continuouse touring also hits Göteborg. Aba Shanti-I himself says: ”Hear the music, feel the vibe!”
